Halloween Fun – The movies we loved as kids, but might have forgotten…

It’s been fun for me to vicariously relive the joys of my childhood with my nieces and nephews. It feels as if I’m passing the torch when I find out that one of them does something I did or likes something my sisters and I liked. Recently I’ve gotten to remember some of the movies that my sisters and I enjoyed as kids. My mom worked the video section of the local grocery store when we were young so were never without a good movie to watch.

Last Halloween my sister told me her youngest was watching The Worst Witch. OMG, what a cute movie. Before there was Harry Potter, there was Mildred Hubble. First off, how can you go wrong with a witch’s academy run by Mrs. Garrett from Facts of Life! Second, what about Tim Curry singing as the Grand Wizard. I absolutely remember watching this movie and telling mom I wanted to go to the witch school too!

The Monster Squad was another one of my favorites. My sisters and I and other neighborhood kids had lots of clubs throughout our childhood, but nothing would have been cooler than to be a part of the Monster Squad. And when the little sister Phoebe brings Frankenstein home and he’s so sweet and lovable… how adorable was that?  A great movie that I’m so happy to know is being enjoyed by my nieces and nephew.

Another great side note about remembering these favorite movies, is that I realize how enamored I was with paranormal and fantasy stories. It’s any wonder I began writing about them. I also recall that the last time my sister’s kids came to visit me, my eldest neice (the artist) sculpted a werewolf in the mud. It makes me wonder if a little of my weird imagination will continue to spread into the world through her.

So what are some of your favorite Halloween movies?  Kid movies or scary adult movies?

Actually, when I was younger I loved “The Lost Boys”. In fact, I still do…along with “From Dusk Till Dawn”. For kids…I think “Hocus Pocus” was cute. :-)
